Maintenance Manager

PURPOSE
This position manages the maintenance personnel and activities to ensure timely repairs and major equipment and furnishings are maintained in a safe, operable condition to optimize the efficiency of the facility.  The Maintenance Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager..  The incumbent works closely with all management and supervisory personnel.

  • Develops, implements and reviews regularly, site-specific maintenance logs for department.
  • Coordinates, arranges, and supervises, or provides for the completion of corrective and preventive maintenance in accordance with company operating procedures, practices and financial considerations. 
  • Evaluates long-term needs in relation to major projects and factory improvements.
  • Ensures that equipment and facility are maintained in a safe, operable condition and/or arrange for replacement/upgrades.
  • Establishes procedures and contacts to ensure timely repairs of equipment.
  • Provide maintenance training to include the effective utilization of the maintenance logs, completion of routine maintenance specific to facility, equipment operations and support.
  • Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
  • Prepares requisitions and determines the number of spare parts to be kept in inventory.
  • Schedules safety training, monthly safety meetings, member of safety committee, and provides technical support for all safety projects, and supports implementation of the 9-key element process.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Assist in maintaining departmental operating budget at a positive variance by effectively utilizing the work force and equipment.
  • Analyzes production downtime reports, determines opportunities, and initiates action plan to increase efficiencies.
  • Maintains facility and assets to USDA, FDA, OSHA, and EPA guidelines.
  • Human resource responsibilities will include department interviewing/evaluating/hiring prospective employees, goal setting, performance evaluation, employee relations, training, recognition, EEO opportunities and compliance with internal/external guidelines.
  • Special projects as directed by manager and/or as requested by other functional managers in the factory.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • The incumbent should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in related field or 5 to 7 years-related experiences and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Must possess mechanical/analytical and technical skills.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration systems.
  • Must have excellent writing/verbal communication skills and ability to provide leadership, teamwork and cooperation.
  • Must have excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Understanding of direct and overhead cost systems.
  • Must have good computer skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to include days, afternoons, midnights, and weekend work..
  • Must have the knowledge of good manufacturing practices, and food processing equipment.  Be safety and quality minded and have the ability to make sound decisions.  Understand OSHA/FDA/USDA/EPA requirements.
  • In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the incumbent must have mobility to move around the factory environment and equipment.  This may require climbing, lifting up to maximum of 100 lbs, working in awkward spaces, etc
