Retail Store Manager

Newburyport, MA

JOB FUNCTION: Provide customer service to customers, before, during, and after a purchase.

  1. Responsible for opening/closing store procedures
  2. Enter daily and weekly sales figures, including waste report, and recording cake inventory receipts for department giveaways
  3. Manage tasks (store checklist; i.e., cleaning, checking expiration dates, product samples)
  4. Ensure the store has enough change in the register and petty cash box, on a regular basis
  5. Create, communicate, and post the work schedule for part-time employees (and stay within budget)
  6. Develop and communicate ideas for social media, in-store sales, promotional events, and community outreach
  7. Develop Store Monthly Marketing Plan
  8. Train new employees in cake decorating, correct product labeling, product storage, taking customer orders, general everyday tasks involved in the opening and closing of the store
  9. Monitor and communicate performance issues of staff to the manager
  10. Assist with the hiring and training of employees
  11. Evaluate the performance of  subordinate employees
  12. Track employee cake vouchers on the shared drive.  Send weekly voucher report to Finance
  13. Maintain weekly store inventory (i.e., plates, fruit, coffee cups, napkins, water/soda) and manage the PO ordering process
  14. Prepare and monitor donations by sending requests to the Retail Manager for approval
  15. Responsible for inventory management: recording product codes, lot numbers, and quantities taken from the warehouse and send to NBP WH Manager
  16. Responsible for delegating tasks throughout the day
  17. Coach retail employees as needed
  18. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work area
  19. Participate in the GFSI/FSSC22000 yearly audit and assist in the development of procedures and corrective actions
  20. Must adhere to the plant’s HACCP plans
  21. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
  22. Performing other duties as assigned


  1. Actively participates in Continuous Improvement projects and processes


  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. 2 years of prior retail and management experience
  3. Bakery experience preferred
  4. Must possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with others
  5. Must be able to operate elevator properly & safely
  6. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  7. Ability to do overhead lifting and bending
  8. Excellent listening and comprehension skills
  9. Ability to be articulate
