Sanitation Manager

The Sanitation Manager position is responsible for monitoring and ensuring proper sanitation throughout the facility and assures that the plant is in compliance with all the company, state, federal, and local laws, regulations, guidelines, standards, etc. relating to sanitation and food safety.  Establishes programs, articulates and reinforces the responsibility of all employees and to integrate food safety and sanitation standards into the Manufacturing process consistently throughout the factory.  Develops and implements short-term, mid-term and long-term goals as well as planning and implementation of continuous improvement strategies.  Support the sanitation effort throughout the organization.
  1. Plans, organizes, controls, and leads the activities of the Sanitation department
  2. Responsible for all segments of the Sanitation functions either directly or through subordinate supervisors
  3. Develops programs, sampling, chemical, physical tests, and reporting for all sanitation processes and activities
  4. Participates in the AIB/FSSC22000 yearly audit and assist in the development of procedures & corrective actions
  5. Recommends and implements corrective and preventive measures to improve plant sanitation, employee hygienic practices, and product safety
  6. Manages people, materials, procedures, and implement operational safety guidelines
  7. Interfaces with inspectors: Report immediately any discrepancies; recommend corrective actions; recommend preventative measures (FDA, AIB, etc.)
  8. Maintains, develops, evaluates, recommends and implement SSOP’s and GMP’s, process control programs, tests and guidelines
  9. Assures the company that the process is within FDA/State requirements and compliance
  10. Reviews microbiological data and provides solutions to deviations from standards
  11. Works with QA department to make adjustments to the master sanitation program to eliminate deficiencies
  12. Maintains and develops partnerships with outside vendors to ensure a high level of service to include but not limited to chemical, pest control and grounds maintenance
  13. Provide support to the sanitation effort throughout the organization
  14. Conduct ATP and allergen testing and develop corrective actions as necessary
  • B.S. degree in Food Safety, Supply Chain Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field of study
  • In depth knowledge of Food Manufacturing Practices
  • Strong background in Microbiology, Chemistry, as well as Sanitation regulations
  • Minimum 8 years experience supervising sanitation in a food manufacturing facility
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership responsibility with a proven track record of developing and implementing Sanitation programs and budgets
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with regulatory inspectors
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding the production of food products
  • Troubleshooting methodologies and root cause analysis
  • FDA compliance requirements, and knowledge of the industry GMP’s, HACCP, and SSOP regulations
  • Thorough knowledge of sampling and food testing processes
  •  Minimum 8 years managerial experience for the training and development of department and facility staff
  • Practical experience in trouble-shooting and working in a team atmosphere
  • Five (5) years or more in a food processing environment, preferably the baking industry
  • Effective communications and organizational skills with the ability to provide functional guidance
  • Highly collaborative influencer who is an effective communicator
  • HACCP or related certification a plus
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus (English/Spanish)
