ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:  Essential Function of the position is to assist the QA Manager along with the QA Team in all aspects of Quality Assurance/Food Safety program. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Conduct weekly calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Perform routine laboratory tests including moisture, Water activity, acidity, viscosity and microbiological analysis of ingredients and products
  • Routinely use such equipment as the ATP, Moisture Analyzer, Petri Film plates, Vidas, aW meter, pH meter, Petri dish, Autoclave, etc.,
  • Perform food safety audits with raw materials, WIP, & finished products
  • Collect & process microbiological, allergen, & environmental swabs, and enter data results
  • Collect & process ingredient, in-process & finished goods samples, process and enter specified data associated with the samples
  • Update QA documents, forms, procedures, instructions as needed.
  • Participate in the creation & execution of food safety corrective actions
  • Reviews required regulatory information, in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and additional State requirements and communicate to each QA member any pertinent information.
  • Assists with questionnaires and technical documents as requested by customers, including export documentation
  • Trains/instructs others as needed on Food Safety issues
  • Determine root cause for non-conformances and close out corrective action reports
  • Track, trend, and collate laboratory quality data electronically
  • Actively participates in Continuous Improvement projects and processes
  • Maintains Certificate of Analysis Program
  • Must adhere to the plant’s HACCP plans
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) preferably science, food science, microbiology, or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work with minimal day-to-day oversight; self-motivated
  • Ability to prepare/interpret statistical analysis, precision measurement, and process capabilities
  • Must understand USDA/FDA, and OSHA requirements
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with others
  • Must have strong computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Must be able to work equally with peers as well as supervisors
  • Analytical skills and detail orientation
  • Knowledge of food safety issues, GMP’s, and other industry requirements
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical skills
  • Strong Written and Verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work other shifts as needed; may be required to work overtime
  • Goal oriented; ability to learn new tasks
  • Ability to project positive behavior; encouraging others to do the same
  • Self-motivated individual
